Teaching Philosophy
During my education experience, I was privileged to meet some extraordinary teachers that left a lasting impression on me. My belief is that teaching is a calling and a deeply personal commitment that makes up a significant part of who you are as an individual. My teaching practice is informed by my experience as a student, artist and researcher. My art practice across painting and printmaking has facilitated my exploration of artistic skills and ability to visually communicate ideas.
My teaching ethos is grounded in my belief that one must be guided by understanding. Mentoring students towards reaching their full potential in school and afterwards as a contributing member of society requires scaffolding students through hands on active learning to construct knowledge and develop essential skills. Inquiry-based learning, problem-solving and answering strategic questions have been deeply important in my projects to get students progressing beyond lower order thinking and recall activities, towards developing their creative and critical thinking skills. I often facilitate collaborative projects as I feel strongly about creating a community of practice amongst students.
My dedication to the school community is grounded in my commitment to fostering emotional wellbeing and to provide experiences that contribute towards student holistic development. It is important that all students find a sense of belonging in the school community. Building a classroom environment that promotes a culture of inclusive learning is vital for ensuring the diverse needs of students are catered for, leading to lifelong learning.
